WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE INTERIOR DESIGN PROCESS FOR A HOME REMODEL

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to transform your home into a space that you loved? At Complements Home Interiors, we feel so incredibly lucky to help Oregon property owners create rooms they can really be proud of.

But what does the process entail when you’re working with an interior designer? The truth is that it can really vary from one project to another, but this is how it usually goes. Keep reading to learn what to expect in the interior design process for a home remodel.

1. INITIAL INTERIOR DESIGN CONSULTATION

Those interested in working with us for home remodeling in Central Oregon start with an initial consultation. This is sometimes called the programming phase, the time we discuss the scope of the project, your ideas, and the initial budget to make it all happen. If you have Pinterest boards or lookbook examples of what you like the best, this is the time to show them off.

From there, we’ll research design options and help come up with detailed drawings and alternatives to try to make as much of your vision for the space come alive as we can. Then we put together a master plan with ideas and meet again to discuss it further. Once this is approved by you, then we can move forward.

2. SPACE PLANNING & DESIGN CONCEPT

Space planning is key to a well-designed space. In this phase, the design team meets with the client to discuss various elements of the design. This phase can include preliminary floor plans, concept development, and furniture layout.

3. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Next, we’ll start getting estimates on the work and pricing out some materials. Due to the fluctuating costs of labor and other fees, we might need to refine the design to fit everything into the budget.

The good news? As an interior design company in Bend, we are skilled in project management and licensed contractors. This means we’re often able to find areas where we can save you a little more than another firm might. We’ll also research all necessary construction permits and fees to help ensure you’re right on track for getting a final design you love.

During this time, you’ll also pick out your finishes and start what most people feel is the fun part of the entire project — seeing your vision start to come to life!

4. START CONSTRUCTION

Finally, there’s the phase where we start construction based on the floor plan, space planning, and construction drawings created earlier in the process. Like you see on all those fancy home remodeling television shows, there is a demo day when the old stuff is ripped out and the project is officially underway. This part can sometimes take a day or two, depending on what you’re looking to change and how much of your home we are working with.

This is also the time when you’ll want to decide if you’re staying put through the process or if your family will relocate to other housing during construction. We mention this part, as not many people think about where they’ll be living during the actual renovation process.

While each project can take more or less time to finish, the result is still the same — a home you absolutely love and cannot wait to enjoy with your friends and family!
