3 WAYS TO CREATE A RELAXING BEDROOM DESIGN

Your home is your oasis. But that also means your master bedroom should be a place you can relax and unwind after a long day.

The good news? Putting together this type of calming and organized space is a lot easier than you might think. In fact, it takes just a little bit of creativity to upgrade your room into the retreat of your dreams.

Here are three ways to create a super relaxing bedroom that you’ll love.

1. CHOOSE A COMFORTABLE MATTRESS

Let’s face it, your bed is the centerpiece of the entire room. To have a truly relaxing space, you need to find the right one to suit your needs. To make this happen, work with your partner to determine what matters most in a new mattress. Does one of you like a firm bed while the other prefers plush? Are heating and cooling important?

Make a list and decide between you what is a deal breaker and what matters most. In some cases, you might need to make a compromise on certain elements. But don’t be afraid to spend a little on your purchase — most homeowners spend about a decade sleeping on a mattress before replacing it and you want to ensure you’re totally comfortable.

2. SELECT THE RIGHT COLOR SCHEME

Another easy and simple way to create a relaxing bedroom is to update the color scheme in your space. While decades ago it was okay to select a bold tone like red or orange, now it is considered a much better idea to choose a lighter tone that evokes images of calm and relaxation.

Gray, beige, and white are always neutral tones that help give off the restful vibe. However, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice enjoying a pop of color. Muted blues, pinks, purples, and even dark browns can all look lovely in a master retreat space.

Help carry the same theme throughout by choosing one tone as your primary. Choose linens, draperies, and furnishings that include this tone. Then add complementary elements in two or three different shades for a cohesive appeal.

3. GET RID OF ELECTRONICS

Our lives are constantly filled with digital interruptions. That means your master bedroom needs to be a place where you can get away from things like your computer or a television screen.

Of course, we see it all the time while providing interior design services in Central Oregon. One spouse wants the television in the bedroom, while the other does not. Again, creating the perfect master retreat requires some compromises, just like with choosing the right mattress.

If your spouse insists on including a television in your space, consider another option: hanging it on the wall with a way to cover it up when not in use. Barn doors or even artwork make this an excellent way to escape digital noise, while still giving you the option to tune out occasionally.
