Have you heard? The 2021 Color of the Year is Sherwin-Williams’ Urbane Bronze! While this dark and rich hue is somewhat reminiscent of old artwork or a metal statue, it’s still a great color for nearly any area of your home. Plus, it easily pairs well with other colors like white, gray, navy, and others for a look that is both relaxed and sophisticated. Keep reading to learn more about this color and tips from our team on using it in your home.

TREND TOWARD NATURAL COLORS

The selection of this shade as the color of the year shows that there’s currently a trend toward natural colors. Why? Well, just about all of us want to bring some sort of tranquility into our homes to balance out the crazy world outside our doors. Using colors that are rooted in nature help bring that calmness and peace that many people crave.

Another reason for this trend is that it offers flexibility in your decor. If you have a neutral color palette for the walls, you can easily interchange pops of color with decor items like curtains and pillows. In a time where it is easy to change your mind, this is a good idea.

PAIRS WITH A WIDE RANGE OF DECOR STYLES

Urbane Bronze is a deep hue that pairs well with a wide range of decor styles. If you’re sick of the grey and beige trend of the last few years, this is a great alternative. For a more contemporary appeal, pair this paint color with stark whites for a crisp and elegant appeal. If you want something a little more casual, Sherwin-Williams’s Messenger Bag, a green hue, is a great pairing.

The really cool thing about the Urbane Bronze color is that it is deep, rich, and masculine. For a living room adorned with leather furniture or even a space with a bit of a rustic feel, this color would look spectacular.

ACCENT WALL OR FULL COLOR?

The only downside to Urbane Bronze is that it can be a bit dark for some spaces or those that are on the smaller side. If you’re trying to paint a studio apartment living room or just make your powder room look more inviting, this is probably not the color you want.

Thus, we would stick to using this paint color as an accent in those spaces and trying to open up the room by using a primary color like Modern Gray from Sherwin-Williams. However, using such a neutral gray-brown hue offers tons of flexibility, making this paint a great choice for both indoor and outdoor living areas.
