THANKSGIVING TABLE DECOR IDEAS

The holiday season is almost here and we couldn’t be more excited here at Complements Home Interiors. If you’re like many people, this might be the first time you’ve been able to safely gather with loved ones in a couple of years and you’re starting to think about ways to really make Thanksgiving dinner extra special.

To help you out, our team of talented designers at our interior design company in Bend have come up with this list of our favorite Thanksgiving decorations. Here are unique and fun Thanksgiving table decor ideas to really make this holiday extra special.

1. USE BOLD COLOR

If you really want to impress your Thanksgiving guests and create an eye-catching holiday table, then you’ll love what you can do with bold color. Think bright and cheerful colors that are normally outside the traditional autumn hue palette—lime green with gold, navy with silver, or even hot pink with gray.

Of course, that might seem a little too casual for some. In that case, consider sticking to traditional reds or oranges, but using a monochromatic theme with varying shades of the same color. This gives off that unique vibe but keeps your entire table looking dressed up and put together for the occasion.

2. ADD GREENERY

Short on time and need a way to impress guests? Add a bit of greenery to your Thanksgiving table. Whether it is a small evergreen wreath surrounding a candle or just a few strands of faux eucalyptus, there is a lot you can do to make this idea work.

If you prefer to keep with the autumn theme, consider looking online for packages of silk leaves in hues of red, gold, and orange. A few of these placed around a brass candelabra centerpiece can offer a surprising look that’s both traditional and elegant.

3. CHOOSE FUN PLATES

A super easy way to dress up your Thanksgiving table is to go with fun plates. Whether it is a bold pattern or a muted illustration of a turkey, there are just a ton of ways you can use this tip to give your holiday aesthetic a total upgrade.

Not a big fan of doing dishes for a crowd? Don’t worry about it! Today’s paper and plastic dinnerware comes in numerous styles, colors, and patterns. In fact, some options are so impressive that you won’t even be able to tell it is disposable.

4. EMBRACE AUTUMN SHADES

Shades of dark brown, burnt orange, ivory and moss bring a traditional Thanksgiving dinner table look.

5. WORK WITH AMBIENT LIGHTING

One of the most forgotten elements of setting the perfect Thanksgiving table is the use of lighting. Choosing ambient lighting that casts a warm glow over the table is an ideal way to achieve that homey, comfortable feeling that most associate with the magic of the holidays.

If you have a chandelier over your dining room table, consider adding Edison bulbs for a vintage-inspired glow. You can also opt for candles, string lights, or tabletop lights designed for special occasions to help set the mood.

6. REMEMBER THE LITTLE ONES

Of course, you can’t forget to dress up the kid’s table for this year’s Thanksgiving festivities. There are so many fun ways to make their space special and unique without sacrificing style.

For example, you can use your crafty skills to make a special tablecloth that they can color with special markers. Just use a plain white one, add a few iron-on decals, and you have a family keepsake you’ll want to keep for years to come.

You can also keep the food fun, such as snacks in the shape of turkeys or extra little cupcakes decorated to look like pilgrim hats.

7. KRAFT PAPER TABLE RUNNER

Easy and cute as can be! You can really get crafty with this one. Draw on a design or write personalized messages of gratitude on table settings. Say thanks to family and friends. Label place settings. The possibilities of this are endless. DIY ideas can add a personal touch to Thanksgiving Day.

8. GRATITUDE LEAVES

Here’s a simple and sweet way to transform your table! Write out all you are thankful for or use them as name cards, either way there make pretty great table decorations (you can even save them after as fall decor for the following days). This is also great if you’re on a tight budget but would like to add some more festive fun.

9. WHITE AND GREEN

Set a welcoming and classy atmosphere with white and green hues. Touches of greenery and white pumpkins can really make this look come to life.

10. USE A BOLD TABLE CLOTH

Make a statement with something unexpected like a plaid tablecloth and natural accents like pine cones or mini pumpkins. Believe it or not, this fun pattern can be elegant enough for a Thanksgiving meal.

11. INCORPORATE A UNIQUE THANKSGIVING CENTERPIECE

Create some visual interest on your table. Delicate lanterns filled with organic accents or candles for a soft glowy look.

BONUS TIP: ALIGHT THE SENSES

As a bonus tip, we encourage you to remember your senses when entertaining for the holidays. Taste and smell are obviously covered by your feast, while sight is an important aspect of your table, overall decorations, and the lighting you use for the space. Finally, don’t forget about sound by selecting a calming instrumental station on your favorite streaming app or just letting the family submit ideas for a Thanksgiving playlist in the days leading up to the event.
