At Complements Home Interiors, we’re proud to be your favorite interior design company in Bend. That’s why we’re always happy to jump on our blog and offer a few interior design and remodeling tips along the way.
Today’s topic? How to create a swoon-worthy gallery wall for your living space. We have quite a few homeowners who come to us with their ideas at an initial interior design consultation and many include this as a focal point for their space.
That said, there’s a right way to really hang collected wall art that impresses guests and looks like it came from the pages of a home decor magazine. Here are a few of our absolute favorite tips for creating a stunning gallery wall.
Stick with a Cohesive Color
One of the biggest mistakes people make when they’re creating a gallery wall is that they either have too many items that aren’t alike or they have far too many that match. The key here is to have a little variety for some interest, but you also want to have a cohesive element between all of them. A specific color or monochromatic hue is a good way to keep things similar, but different.
Vary Your Sizes and Orientations
Another way to make your gallery wall really pop is to vary your sizes and orientations. The coolest part about an actual art gallery is that the items on the wall are often different from one another. Be sure to spread out your items, ensuring that there aren’t two pieces the same style or shape next to each other. And keep your largest piece separated from other bigger items, which can make the whole thing look cluttered.
Don’t Rely on Just Photographs or Only Art
We get it. The term gallery wall is a little misleading, especially when anything goes in terms of what you can add. Don’t feel as though you’re stuck with just photographs or only art. Float-mounting items like baskets, trays, plates, or whatever else excites you is a fun way to spruce up your space. Best of all, you can always switch it out if you put it up and it doesn’t blend well with your other pieces.
Get Personal and Add Your Own Touch
Gallery walls are about showing off a piece of who you are and what matters most to you. Maybe that’s a photo of your great-great-grandmother who was a nurse in WWII. Perhaps it is a photo of a dog. Or it could be a plastic toy dinosaur you spray painted gold. We won’t judge! Gallery walls are all about your tastes, theme, and even who is living in the room you’re creating one for. Don’t be afraid to mix things up a bit.
