PROS VS CONS OF TILE FLOORING

Hardwood floors and carpets make ideal flooring options, but don’t count out tile. This versatile flooring comes in three styles: ceramic, mosaic, stone, and porcelain. While they come with numerous benefits, tile floors do have some limitations. If you want to know if they’re suitable for your space, consider the following advantages and disadvantages.

Tile floors have more durability than many people might think. Since they resist moisture, you can use them in damp environments, including bathrooms and kitchens. You can even install this material outdoors. They  can handle heavy foot traffic, and they don’t rot or corrode. Some types can also withstand some chemical spills.

When you use material treated with liquid glass, the flooring becomes stain-resistant. This treatment makes tile flooring even more desirable because it becomes impervious to many types of spills, including hair color. There are some types of tiles that won’t develop fungus, viruses, bacteria, or mold, they have hygienic properties.

Ceramic tiles make sense for environmentally conscious consumers. Made from sand, water, and clay, they don’t exploit natural resources. Because you can simply clean them with brooms and mops, they don’t need harsh cleaning chemicals. Set-in stains usually don’t occur because liquids and dirt sit on the surface. If you find stubborn spots, cleaners should take care of them without causing damage.

Tile comes in many designs, styles, textures, colors, and styles to suit everyone. They install inexpensively and clean easily. They appeal to many users, but they do have some drawbacks.

Their durability can cause breakage to items that fall on them, especially when made from glass. Heavy, durable items can crack or chip tiles when landing on them. On the other hand, you can replace damaged tiles fairly easily.

The product itself does not require much maintenance, but improperly sealed grout can develop stains and mildew. These blemishes require cleaning with vinegar. While tiles work incredibly well in hotter climates because they keep the house cool, they cause cold feet in cold temperatures. On the other hand, tiles warm up quickly when exposed to direct sunlight. In our climate, we use tile heat on programmable timers in most primary bathrooms and entryways to add warmth at specific times of the day.

You can often find this type of flooring in warm-climate homes. Still, these tips can help evaluate its potential for your space, regardless of location.
