4 WELCOMING ENTRYWAY DESIGN IDEAS

One of the initial things guests will notice is your entryway. After all, it is the area of your home they see when they first enter your space. Since you only have one shot to make a good impression, it is super important that this area create a welcoming and homey vibe.

As an interior design company in Bend, we often hear from our clients that mudrooms and new foyers are almost always on the list of wants for home remodeling in Central Oregon.

The good news is that there are plenty of options out there to make yours a little more welcoming, even if you aren’t ready for a full renovation. Here are a few entryway design tips that you can use to update the look of your home.

1. KEEP CLUTTER OUT OF SIGHT

For a lot of families, the foyer or front entry area is a place for items to collect. Instead, take steps to ensure clutter is out of sight. Designate storage space in a nearby closet or build a mudroom bench to help hold things like backpacks, shoes, coats, and more. The more you can keep these items from piling up, the better the space will look. Plus, proper organization makes it easier to get the kids out the door for school in the morning.

2. START FROM THE CURB

That feeling of comfort and serenity that your home projects to your guests starts with the moment they arrive. Make sure their path from the curb to the interior of your home is an extension of your front entry. Add sufficient lighting and spruce up your porch with little personalized touches. If it has been a long time, repaint your front door, too. Even a cute little vase of faux flowers on a small table can bring that extra bit of pizzazz that delights.

3. ADD DETAILS THAT REFLECT YOUR FAMILY

Your home should be an extension of who you are. Ensure your entry feels welcoming by adding details that reflect your family. Need a few ideas? Photos of loved ones and pets are always fun. And even little mementos like trinkets from adventures you’ve taken together arranged on a table can look great.

4. REMEMBER THE SENSES BEYOND SIGHT

It is also important to remember the senses beyond sight—smell, touch, and sound. (We won’t put taste in this list because that would be a little weird.) Using textures like rugs and wallpaper can create more interest in the space. And don’t discount the power of smell. When your home has a clean scent or smells like freshly-baked cookies thanks to a pretty candle, guests are more likely to feel welcome.
